Rev. 21:7-8 "He who conquers shall have this heritage and I will be his God and he shall be my son. But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the polluted, as for murderers, fornicators, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their lot shall be in the lake of fire that burns fire and brimstone, which is the second death." Hell is a fire and brimstone pit that is an eternal fire and everlasting torment for the wicked! Hell is the abode of the wicked! A place of eternal punishment. Revelation 20:10 states, "The devil who deceived them was thrown into a lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever." Catholic teaching has explicitly defended the doctrine of Hell. The Bible gives numerous confirmations regarding the doctrine of Hell. The Old Testament Scriptures speak abundantly on Hell. Some Biblical translations call Hell, Sheol. The New Testament Scriptures mention Hell approx. twenty-three times. The Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Satan is found in the sacred Scriptures.
The essence of Hell is the final exclusion from communion with God. Hell is the everlasting and eternal torment for the unrepentant, unfaithful, impious and impure. Hell is truly the chastisement of God that awaits the wicked and obstinate sinners. Scripture gives great affirmation that Hell awaits the wicked, the unfaithful, the sexually immoral, the idolaters, the adulterers, the revilers, the greedy, thieves, blasphemers, fornicators, and the malicious. There must be repentance of mortal sin or one goes to Hell! The torments in hell are absolutely terrible; the damned never see God. There is a great anguish of mind in hell. In Hebrew 10:31 St. Paul exhorts, "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God." The Catholic Council of Lyons gives an absolute truth that the souls of those who die in mortal sin go at once into hell. Isaiah 57:20-21 states, But the wicked are like the tossing sea; for it cannot rest. There is no peace, says my God, for the wicked. This absolutely correlates with Hell, where the wicked cannot rest, and there is no peace. The Catechism of the Catholic Church gives great affirmation of the reality of Hell! Paragraphs 1033-1037 give written evidence regarding the Church's teaching regarding Hell. On page 456, the article regarding the gravity of sin, mortal and venial sin is mentioned. Paragraph 1861 gives evidence the Church's teaching that through mortal sin there is exclusion from God and the eternal death of Hell.
The Psalms give affirmation regarding Hell. The reality of Hell. Psalm 9:17 states, "The wicked shall depart to Hell! Hell is the eternal lot of misery awaiting those who die in unrepentant mortal sin, that are not in a state of grace, and are at enmity with God." Psalm 11:5-7 gives affirmation of the testing of the righteous and the wicked. The Lord soul hates him who loves violence. The Lord will rain fire and brimstone on the wicked. A scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup. In Psalm 16:1-11 King David calls upon the power of God for refuge, for deliverance, not to be given up to Sheol or the pit, which is Hell. Psalm 18:1-11 the Psalmist cries out in deliverance against the cords of death, the torrents of perdition, the cords of Sheol. Psalm 21:8-10 gives affirmation that the Lord will make his enemies as a blazing oven. In his wrath the fire will consume the wicked. Psalm 55:23 gives affirmation that men of blood and treachery will be cast by God into the lowest pit. In the Old Testament book of Job the scriptures speak of Hell. In Job 17:12-16 Job gives affirmation in regards to Sheol, the pit and the worm. In Job 21:1-34 Job exhorts, "How often is the lamp of the wicked put out? That their calamity comes upon them. That God distributes pains in his anger. That the wicked will drink the wrath of the Almighty." In Judith 16:17 Scripture states, "The Lord God Almighty will take up vengeance on the wicked in the day of judgment; fire and worms he will give to their flesh; they shall weep in pain for ever." Wisdom 2:23-24 states, "For God created man for incorruption, and made him in the image of his own eternity, but through the devil's envy death entered the world, and those who belong to the devil's party will experience it." Wisdom 4:19 Scripture gives affirmation that the unrighteousness will suffer anguish! Wisdom 16:14-18 Scripture gives affirmation that no one can escape from the hand of God and the ungodly will be consumed by fire. Sirach 7:17 states, "The punishment of the ungodly is fire and worms. Fire and worms signifies the punishment of the next life in Hell." Sirach 28:13-23 Scriptures gives verification, the godly will not burn, but those who forsake the Lord will fall into the power of evil and will burn and the flame will not be put out. Jeremiah 15:4-9, 14 gives evidence of those who reject the Lord. Also, in the anger of the Lord is kindled a fire that burns for ever. Ezekiel 20:1-49 gives evidence of Israel's history of infidelity and the blazing fire of God that will not be quenched. Baruch 4:21-36 speaks of the mercy of God, the wrath of God and the everlasting fire. There is a preponderance amount of Biblical evidence that give absolute affirmative evidence of the existence of Hell.
The New Testament gives numerous evidence of Hell! In Matt. 3:8-10 John the Baptist exhorts To bear good fruit showing signs of repentance. Also the axe will be laid to the root of tree's; every tree not bearing good fruit will be thrown in the fire. In Luke 13:6-9 In the parable of the barren fig tree, Jesus gives evidence of God's impending justice against the impenitent. We must bear fruit or be cut off the vine. John 15:6 correlates in regards to bearing fruit. Jesus exhorts, "If a man does not abide in me, he is cast forth as a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire and burned." In Matt. 5:22 Jesus gives affirmation regarding anger. Also he gives warning that he who insults and gives condemnation of one another, as calling your brother a fool is liable to Hell fire. Matt. 5:27-30 Jesus gives a stern warning that the lustful desire for sexual impurity will lead one into Hell. Speaking in Semitic hyperbole Jesus states, "If your eye or hand cause you to sin, it is better than one lose an eye or a hand than your whole body thrown into Hell." In Matt. 7:15-19 Jesus exhorts, Bware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly they are ravenous wolves." He then gives warning to produce good fruit. He states, "Every tree that does not produce good fruit will be thrown into the fire." In Matt. 10:28 Jesus exhorts, "Do not fear those who can kill the body, but cannot kill the soul, fear him who can destroy both body and soul." Matt. 13:24-30, 36-43 the parable of the weeds or sometimes called the parable of the tares or cockle, Jesus gives evidence of Hell. In this parable the good and evil are evident in the kingdom of God on earth. The evil, the sons of the devil, the weeds, will suffer damnation at the last judgment being burnt up in the fire. In Matt. 25:31-46, the parable of the last judgment, in the separation of the sheep and goats, Jesus exhorts, "The uncharitable will be cursed and thrown into the eternal fire." Please read this parable. Matt. 18:9-Mark 9:43-47-Luke 12:5 give Biblical evidence regarding that existence of Hell. Matt. 12:25-45-Mark 3:23-27-Luke 11:17-26 give evidence of the kingdom of Satan. In Mark 9:43-48 Sacred Scripture gives evidence of Hell, the unquenchable fire, where the worm does die.
The worm in Biblical metaphorical language is an agent of destruction! It describes the corruptibility and the morality of the flesh. Luke 16:19-31 the parable of the Rick Man and Lazarus gives direct Scriptural affirmation of the reality of Hell. 2 Peter 2:1-22 St. Peter gives evidence of Hell and condemnation. In 2 Peter 3:7 St. Peter speaks of fire and judgment. Rev. 19:20 speaks of the lake of fire and brimstone. Hell is the abode of the wicked and unrepentant sinner. Hell is the place where torture of the damned are eternal. Satan and his followers will be cast into fire and brimstone pit, a pool of fire where they will be tormented day and night for ever and ever. Life in Hell is the everlasting death, or second death.
We were created for salvation, not damnation! We cannot earn salvation - it is a free gift, by the grace of God's through faith. We can earn damnation through willful mortal sin. In 1 Tim. 2:4 Scripture gives evidence that God our Saviour wants all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. In 1 Thes. 5:9 St. Paul exhorts, "For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath, but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ." Let us never forget the words of the great prophet Isaiah. Isaiah 5:20 "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness"! Let us in faithfulness reform our lives, let us repent and be transformed with a renewal of our mind, heart, and soul through the power of the gospel, the Word of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Let us in confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. In Luke 13:3-5 Jesus exhorts, "Repent or Ye shall likewise Perish!"
Let us all repent turning to the power of the precious blood of Jesus! The Sacrament of Penance will set you free from the power of sin.
May God richly bless you! Amen! Hallelujah!
